The wind

Wind damaged was mercifully minimal, thanks in part to my generally late planting this year (I've still yet to figure out why) and also the privet hedges around the plots - who'd have thought there'd be a time when I was thankful for the privet?! One of the (almost empty) water butts had been blown over on to one of the comfrey plants, which I'm sure will survive since I've yet to kill the stuff yet even when I want to!

Unfortunately the major casualty of the wind was the den:

I've yet to break the news to the kids...

Glad that was all the damage you got! Privet does have an upside!

A useful privet, there's a first time for everything. Glad your plot survived relatively unscathed.

The wind had blown the enviromesh off our carrots so much for weeding underneath to keep the carrot fly out!!

Hopefully it'll have blown away the carrot fly too!

Sorry about the den - I am off to view the latest wind damage this afternoon...

Just returned from windy (and cold) Cornwall, and it's been windy here too. Have a look at my Blog - thought of you when I was in the walled gardens at Heligan. If I was young, free and single I'd have wanted to stay and work there! Or even at The Eden Project!
Perhaps you will have to build a replacement den!

Pity about the den, but at least you can rebuild it!
I've lost a few crops to the high winds and lack of rain - totally dried them out despite my almost daily waterings :(

Oooops, bad luck about the den... We escaped too much wind damage although it did seem to set the sweetcorn back a bit...

You can rebuild the den. They will never know....

We're growing comfrey for the first time this year after hearing of the wonderous comfrey-tea it makes. How have you found it as a fertilizer?

Re the Den...maybe a story about a giant or something? Make the bad news more exciting? ;)
